Self Serve Tools

Perforce Server Log Analyzer

The Perforce Technical Support Team is pleased to offer access to the first of our self serve software tools, the Perforce Server Log Analyzer.

There are many factors that can impact server performance: hardware, incorrect setup, third party software, and usage can all be problematic.  The Log Analyzer will allow you to examine possible usage problems by parsing your server log file and displaying commands that may have affected your server's performance.  Results will be kept on our server for a period of 10 days and can be accessed any time by using your email address and access key.  Log files will be automatically purged from our system upon expiration.

Supported log files are from server version 2005.2 or higher and have an extension of .txt, .gz, .zip, or .log. Maximum log size is 64 MB but the data can be compressed.  Since log files are text only they compress well; as such the Log Analyzer can accommodate large log files.

Benchmark Results Database

Perforce Servers run on many different hardware platforms, including some of the best available. As a Perforce administrator, have you ever wondered how your server stacks up? Would you like to find the best performing configuration for Perforce?

To help address these questions, our Performance Lab has designed a set of benchmarks to measure the performance of critical Perforce operations. Synthetic benchmarking tools, such as bonnie(++) and SPEC, can be useful for isolating the performance of specific subsystems. However, the best way to assess how a particular configuration will perform while running Perforce, is to actually test it with Perforce.

Benchmark results are not particularly useful if you do not have other configurations to compare against. This is where the Benchmark Results Database (BRDB) comes in. The BRDB allows you to compare your results against those of other users. Optionally, you can upload your results and report the characteristics of your hardware configuration. Your results can be sorted, searched and viewed by other Perforce administrators who can learn from your experience and improve the performance of their own servers.
